For the week of February 6, 2016

Important News and Information:

~Field Trip - On Tuesday (Feb. 7th) we are going on our field trip to the Cradle of Aviation. The children should wear their gym uniforms (no NUT passes please) and bring a bag lunch. We will be leaving first thing in the morning and will return before the end of the school day.

~100th Day of School - If all goes as planned, we will be celebrating our 100th day of school on Monday, Feb. 13th. We will spend this week doing lots of fun activities to prepare!

~Homework:

-Spelling: We will continue using the FEBRUARY spelling menu this week.
-Math: Homework this week are pages out of the Practice Workbook.
-Reading Journal: Continue to enjoy reading every night and record your books for the month of February.

Our Work for the Week:

ELA: This week we will be reading an informational text called "Let's Go to the Moon".

SPELLING WORDS: This week's spelling words are:
flat, shed, clip, chop, stump, plate, nice, stove, flute, does
*There will be a spelling test on Friday.

PHONICS: We will be reviewing short vowels, digraphs, blends, and long vowels.

MATH
: We will finish working on chapter 5: relating addition and subtraction. There will be a chapter 5 test on Friday.

It's very important to keep reviewing basic addition and subtraction facts on daily basis at home. You can use games on apps and websites as well as flashcards. It's helpful to give reminders to use all of the strategies we've learned...doubles, doubles +1, friends of ten.

**Please note that if during the day we use pages out of our Big Math Book in class, I will send those pages home in the red take home folder so you can see how the lesson was taught during the day. It is my hope that, if needed, this will help you be able to assist your child with the homework that night.

SCIENCE: We have finished our unit on the solar system. We're so excited to review everything we've learned on our field trip to the Cradle of Aviation this week.

SOCIAL STUDIES: We will begin a unit on geography. We will read the book Flat Stanley and create our own Flat Stanleys to mail out. We hope to learn about lots of new interesting places!
