Dear Students and Parents,

Happy Monday!  I hope you had a great weekend!  Spring is almost here! I am very proud of all the hard work you have been putting in using their "Books in a Bag!"  The children are so excited to get a new book each day.
I am also looking forward to seeing you all at report card conferences! The children have been working so hard and I am so proud of all their accomplishments!

**REMINDER!-I am asking that you please be aware your child is using the writing lines correctly when doing their homework!  Letters DO NOT FLOAT! We are going to be focusing a lot on lowercase letters and it is extremely important that they are able to recognize them as well as write them. Please also make sure that your child is not writing their letters from the "grass line" UP.  We have learned that letters all FALL matter what line they start on!

**Some Information for You!**

-Please label your child's (1) HEALTHY MORNING SNACK with the letter "M" on it.
-Please refrain from sending your child to school with peanut butter as we have a few children with severe allergies.
- Remind your child about the importance of staying safe in our classroom.  This means we keep our hands on our own bodies, we sit criss-cross applesauce, hands in our laps, and we raise our hand to leave our seats.
- Remind them to ALWAYS ask for help.
-Please practice writing their name (first and last) with only the first letters being uppercase letters.
- When writing, please ONLY use pencil!  Unless the directions say to color, we ONLY write with pencil :)
-Remember to have fun while learning!

This week in K-2:

We will finish Chapter 9- 2 Dimensional Shapes.   We will be learning about putting together shapes to make other shapes.  The children will be learning that these shapes are "FLAT" shapes.  They will be learning the "fancy word" for corner- vertex! Please do not stop practicing number recognition with your child.  Reversals are normal, but the more they practice writing the numbers, the better they will be! They should also know that when writing numbers, they all touch the sky and grass lines!  As this math may be new to some of you, as well as the terminology, please do not hesitate to contact me if you find yourself, or your child confused in any way! I am here to help all of you!

Stories of the Week: Stories that teach about adjectives
Letter of the Week:
review (uppercase and lowercase)
Sight Words:  at, and, do (trick words- was, as)
Poem of the Week: Spring is Here!
Phonics Skill: TAP out words (we will be spending the next few weeks on this skill!) We will also be reviewing rhyming words.  We will learn that these words have the same ending sounds!  We will also be learning about "Sneaky e" and long vowel sounds.
Writing: formation of Uppercase letters/Opinion Writing
**It is very important that you continue to practice phonics at home as well.**

We will continue learning about our national monuments.  We will also begin learning about day/night!  We will continue doing fun STEM activities, also!

We will be discussing how we can be kind during Lent.

If you have any questions at any time, please do not hesitate to contact me!  E-mail is a great way to get in touch with me, but you can always call the main office and leave me a message.  I will get back to you as soon as I can!

Here's to a great year!
