Dear Students and Parents,

Happy Monday!  I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!
It was so nice meeting with all of you at your child's report card conference!  I love sharing all of their wonderful work and discussing all the progress they are making!

**Some information about Tuesday's trip!**
-Please have your child wear his/her gym uniform
-We will be back in time for lunch
-Your child will be getting popcorn and water at the theatre

The children have come a very long way with learning to write their name correctly!  However, I am still asking for a HUGE favor.  Please practice writing your child's name with them.  We "sign" everything we work on in class, and it is VERY important that they learn how to correctly write their name using ONLY an uppercase letter for the first letter, while the rest are lower case.  Also, please be aware that your child is using the writing lines correctly!  Letters DO NOT FLOAT! We are going to be focusing a lot on lowercase letters and it is extremely important that they are able to recognize them as well as write them.

**Some Information for You!**

-Please label your child's (1) HEALTHY MORNING SNACK with the letter "M" on it.
-Please refrain from sending your child to school with peanut butter as we have a few children with severe allergies.
- Remind your child about the importance of staying safe in our classroom.  This means we keep our hands on our own bodies, we sit criss-cross applesauce, hands in our laps, and we raise our hand to leave our seats.
- Remind them to ALWAYS ask for help.
-Please practice writing their name (first and last) with only the first letters being uppercase letters.
- When writing, please ONLY use pencil!  Unless the directions say to color, we ONLY write with pencil :)
-Remember to have fun while learning!

This week in K-2:

We will finish up Chapter 5- Addition.  We have been learning about number pairs for numbers 2-10.  We will also be learning about the concept "in all." We have learned about the "plus sign" and "equal sign."  We are learning how to writing addition sentences to 10! Please do not stop practicing number recognition with your child.  Reversals are normal, but the more they practice writing the numbers, the better they will be! As this math may be new to some of you, as well as the terminology, please do not hesitate to contact me if you find yourself, or your child confused in any way! I am here to help all of you!

Stories of the Week:
Letter of the Week: x, y

Sight Words: of, have
Phonics Skill: Beginning Sounds- We will be spending the next 12 weeks learning letter/letter sound recognition.
Writing: formation of lowercase letters
**It is very important that you continue to practice phonics at home as well.**

We will be learning about "wants and needs" as we prepare for the Christmas season! If time allows, we will also be doing a candy cane science experiment!

We will be learning about Advent and what it means to prepare our hearts for Jesus.

If you have any questions at any time, please do not hesitate to contact me!  E-mail is a great way to get in touch with me, but you can always call the main office and leave me a message.  I will get back to you as soon as I can!

Here's to a great year!
