Dear Students and Parents,

Happy Tuesday! It was so nice marching with some of you at the St. Brendan's Day Parade! Just a few reminders:
-Please send in your child's permission slip/money for our field trip if you have not already done so
-Please send your child in with a SMALL stuffed animal on Tuesday as we will be celebrating St. Francis at 1:00 pm at St. Ignatius

We are learning so much about the season of Fall, and we are getting super excited for our All Saint's Day Pageant and our first field trip to White Post Farms!

**While you are outside with your child, please have them collect 5-10 leaves of different colors.  We will be doing a project based upon a story we will read, and I would like to make sure everyone has what they need! Please send them in by NEXT WEDNESDAY (10/18) in a LABELED ziploc bag :)

I am still asking for a HUGE favor.  Please practice writing your child's name with them.  We "sign" everything we work on in class, and it is VERY important that they learn how to correctly write their name using ONLY an uppercase letter for the first letter, while the rest are lower case.  Also, please be aware that your child is using the writing lines correctly!  Letters DO NOT FLOAT! We are going to be focusing a lot on lowercase letters and it is extremely important that they are able to recognize them as well as write them.

**Some Information for You!**

-Please label your child's (1) HEALTHY MORNING SNACK with the letter "M" on it.
-Please refrain from sending your child to school with peanut butter as we have a few children with severe allergies.
- Remind your child about the importance of staying safe in our classroom.  This means we keep our hands on our own bodies, we sit criss-cross applesauce, hands in our laps, and we raise our hand to leave our seats.
- Remind them to ALWAYS ask for help.
-Please practice writing their name (first and last) with only the first letters being uppercase letters.
- When writing, please ONLY use pencil!  Unless the directions say to color, we ONLY write with pencil :)
-Remember to have fun while learning!

This week in K-2:

We will begin Chapter 3- Numbers 6-9.  We have been working a lot with a "5-frame." We will now be learning about a '10 frame!' The children have learned that when they see a FULL 5-frame, they don't need to count- they know they have 5! We chant in class, "When a 5-frame is full, I know I have 5!" The children will now learn to count on from 5. As this math may be new to some of you, as well as the terminology, please do not hesitate to contact me if you find yourself, or your child confused in any way! I am here to help all of you!

Stories of the Week: Fall Stories
Letter of the Week: i, u
Sight Words: the, a, and
Phonics Skill: Beginning Sounds- We will be spending the next 12 weeks learning letter/letter sound recognition.
Writing: formation of lowercase letters
**It is very important that you continue to practice phonics at home as well.**

We will be learning about Fall.  We will being our inquiry based learning project on this season.  We will create our first "Wonder Wall" of questions and research to find our answers.

We will begin learning about the Saints as we prepare for our All Saint's Day Pageant!

If you have any questions at any time, please do not hesitate to contact me!  E-mail is a great way to get in touch with me, but you can always call the main office and leave me a message.  I will get back to you as soon as I can!

Here's to a great year!
