Physical Education:

Pre-K, K, and 1st

For this month of February, I intend on focusing on yoga poses to improve posture and coordination.

2nd, 3rd and 4th

For the month of February we will focus on the game of basketball. We will start by having the gym organized into stations where the students work on each skill of basketball, dribbling, passing, and shooting. After that we will play specific games that focus on a certain skill. My goal is to have the 3rd and 4th grade play a coherent game of basketball.

5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th

I have discovered that class runs much smoother if the students are constantly moving, ESPECIALLY if they are playing a live game. For the beginning of the month of February we will be playing 3 vs 3 basketball and the other side will be separated into 4 exercise stations. The students in the exercise stations will rotate every min and after each student has done a minute of each of the 4 exercises, they switch with the students who are playing the game. I will grade the students after each class based on how they perform in each station. If a student works hard at each station, plays the game to the best of their ability, and are sweating and tired at the end of class, they will get a good grade for the day.

The second half of the month we will work on volleyball skills as well as the rules of the game. Having spent my first summer in long beach this past year, I found that beach volleyball is HUGE! The kids need to have a basic understanding of the game so that they can get involved during the summer!
