**February Learning Plan**

**5th Grade Reading**

**:**We are continuing to read non-fiction and historical fiction stories that help students learn about American History. We will be analyzing stories through author's purpose, sequence of events, time lines, cause and effect, and use inferences to develop meanings. We are also focusing on paragraph writing, elements of a solid paragraph using correct grammar, format, introduction, body, conclusion, and including and citing text evidence correctly to support one opinion or inference. Once we clearly understand the expectations of how to construct a formal paragraph, we will be working on how to construct a reading response paper.

**5th Grade Religion**: This month we are focusing on the Sacraments of Healing and to Restore Us. We will be discussing the celebration of Penance and Reconciliation, explore Jesus' as the Healer, the celebration of the Anointing of the Sick, and further look at Mary as the model of Discipleship.

**5th Grade Math**

**:**We are finishing Chapter 5: Dividing Decimals. Then off to Chapter 6: Add and Subtract Fractions with Unlike Denominators. We will estimate fraction sums and differences, add and subtract fractions, find common denominators, order and compare fractions, add and subtract mixed numbers, rename fractions, find patterns in fractions, and work with word problems computing fraction amounts.

**We are ending Chapter 5: Factorization. Chapter 5 includes exploring numbers that are prime, composite, and identifying factorization and common factors of numbers. Then off to Chapter 6: Fraction Equivalence and Comparison. We will be identifying the meaning of fractions, parts to whole, model fractions, write fractions in simplest form, write equal fractions, find common denominators of fractions, compare fractions and order fractions, put fractions on a number line, and work with fractions in word problems.**

January Learning Plan: Happy New Year!

5th Grade Reading: We are continuing to finish reading the chapter book,

*Hound Dog True*. We are reading in Literature Circles and at home. Then we are off to reading non-fiction and historical fiction stories that help students learn about American History. We will be analyzing stories through sequence of events, time lines, cause and effect, and use inferences to develop meanings.

5th Grade Religion: We are continuing to understand and explore the the in depth process and parts of Confirmation and the other sacraments that lead to confirmation. We are exploring the parts of Mass during this sacrament.

5th Grade Math:We are continuing to multiply decimals. Then we are off to Chapter 5: Dividing Decimals. Students will be able divide numbers that have decimals in the dividend, divisor, or sometimes both. We are focusing again on what decimals mean and what happens to numbers when dividing with numbers that contain decimals. Then students will be able to identify the meaning of word problems and check division problems using multiplication.

4th Grade Math: We are continuing the many ways to divide numbers, eventually mastering long division with regrouping. Once we finish dividing numbers with a large dividends that may contain four or five digits we will begin Chapter 5: Factorization. Chapter 5 includes exploring numbers that are prime, composite, and identifying factorization and common factors of numbers. We are exploring the relationship of numbers in this short chapter.

December Learning Plan

December Learning Plan

We are continuing some of our November lesson plans and then off to learning...

5th Grade Reading:We will continue reading "Storm Warriors" focusing on the strategies summarizing and inferences, and then reading "Cougars" focusing on main idea and details.

5th Grade Religion: We are focusing on preparing for Christmas during the season of Advent.

5th Grade Math: We will be multiplying decimals. We will use partial products and regrouping. Please keep reviewing basic math facts. We will continue multiplying decimals in January.

4th Grade Math: Dividing numbers that have quotients with remainders. We will continue working on reviewing multiplying 2-digit by 2-digit numbers. Our focus will be learning different ways to divide such as using the distributive property, partial quotients, and long division. Our chapter assessment will take place in January.
