Dear Kindergarten Families,
This week we have a ton of fun activities planned for your child. Valentine's Day is a great way for your child to show love , kindness and appreciation to others. We will be making Valentine's boxes for our class valentine's this week. Please remember to send an empthy cereal box to school by 2/10/21. This week we will be reading two wonderful stories that teach us about kindness and love. As the children read we will continue to practice our 5 finger retell. After your child has listened to or read a fiction story, have them hold up 5 fingers. On the first finger say, who is in the story. On the second finger we tell where the story took place. One the next three fingers tell what happened first, next and last. This will help your child with retelling a story. If your child is having a difficult time with this concept then you can do it for them. remember, the most important part of this activity is not wether or not they have the right answers, but that you are enjoying reading time together and talking about the story together.
In math, we will begin module 9. During the next 5 days, we will be learning how to count to 100 by ones and tens, as well as how to count forward from a given number. Ask your child to explain these concepts. Having your child explain or show how to solve a problem helps them make sense of mathematics and deepens their understanding. If they get stuck, go to the Family Resources on the HMH website and use digital resources to learn together.
In religion, we will continue to read Noah’s Ark by Jan Brett. The children will create pattern books about Noah’s Ark. In Science, we will be learning about Arctic Animals, like the one in Jan Brett’s Cozy. We will also be writing All About Arctic Animals Nonfiction books.
As always if you have any questions, comments or concerns please feel free to reach out to me via email or Remind. Have a wonderful week!
Warmly,
Mrs. Maraglio
-Your child will be coming home with a CLEAR FOLDER. This is their Take-Home folder. Please put all notes to school in here and send it in with your child each day.
-HOMEWORK: Your child will be coming home with their blue HOMEWORK FOLDER and their homework newsletter on Mondays. This folder should be returned EVERY FRIDAY to be checked. They will also have a reading log book mark in their book bag buddy. Book Bag Buddys should come back and forth to school everyday. This will help your child with comprehension. Students will be able to choose one book that can be read to them and one book that they can read independently. Children will also bring home a poem to read every Thursday in their poetry notebooks.
-CHANGES IN TRANSPORTATION MUST BE IN WRITING!
-Your child will need one (1) HEALTHY morning snack every day! Some examples are yogurt, fruit, granola bars, etc. They will also need to bring their own water bottle each day. The only thing they can drink at snack time is water. This should be in a bottle with a sports top or pop up straw (tops that screw off often make spills that we try to avoid!)
-Please refrain from sending your child to school with peanut butter as we have a few children with severe allergies.
- Remind your child about the importance of staying safe in our classroom. This means we keep our hands on our own bodies and we raise our hand to leave our seats.
- Remind them to ALWAYS ask for help.
-Remember to have fun while learning!
