Math: We will continue to work on our division skills and have challenged ourselves to improve our fact fluency. Daily use of songs and dance have really helped - these are posted in students math google classrooms as well. Long division is challenging and students have notes to refer to in their blue spirals. Please make sure any books that come home are returned to school the next day. Thank you!
Science: We are currently learning about the weather (tools for measuring weather, air masses and fronts, how pressure/humidity/temperature can help us predict the weather and so much more. Students have been working in small groups to study weather maps and make predictions of future weather patterns based on the patterns and trends they observe. We are nearing the end of the unit which means our test will be in the second week of March.
Religion: We will continue to work on our unit on the Ten Commandments. Each week we will learn about another commandment and how we can best live out this commandment in our daily lives. We will also be closely examining the weekly gospel. The season of Lent has begun and students will participate in weekly prayer services, as well as, have an opportunity to attend Mass with a parent on Monday/Tuesday mornings.
Math: We have been working dilegently to learn how to work with fractions and mixed numbers with the operations of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Students are most enjoying activities that allow them to put their skills to the test. For example, designing park spaces, solving winter glyphs, and holiday themed challenges. Who says learning can't be fun?
Science: In science, we are learning more about ecosystems and how energy transfers between organisms. These units expanded on topics learned last year and students are much more comfortable with the material. Students will also be assigned their fourth Scientist of the Month report which is due by Friday, March 31st. All pertinent information about this months project will be found in their science google classroom.
Religion: Our fifth graders will be receiving religion instruction 3 times a week from Ms. Marino. Updates on topics they will be focusing on will be posted here, as well as, any important due dates for projects or assessments.
