Welcome to Long Beach Catholic Regional School!
September came and went very quickly and here we are mid way through the month of
October. With about 97% of our students attending school in person, all students,
teachers and staff have adjusted well to the new protocols. We all miss our remote
learners but having them join us on-line every day is a great way to continue to learn and
stay connected. The faculty has been working diligently to implement all the necessary
requirements to ensure the students are learning in a safe environment. We have also
been able to take advantage of the many warmer days and have been teaching our
students in the school yard, on the lawn and on the boardwalk. We are truly blessed to
have such wonderful options available to us.
All of our third graders finally received the sacrament of First Holy Communion in their
respective parishes. Therefore, on October 7 th , we were able to have all the children wear their dresses and suits and celebrate their first liturgy together where they were all able to receive the Eucharist together! It was a special mass, shared by many parents as well as our parishioners!
October is right to life month. Our students will be learning about the dignity of all
human life. October is also the month of the Rosary and along with our prayers and
saying the Angelus daily, we will also be praying the Rosary. I recommend praying a
decade of the Rosary, with your family, in the evening. The Rosary is a beautiful
meditation on the lives of Mary and Jesus. We will also be learning about the saints in
preparation for All Saint's Day with a special presentation by our Kindergarten as they
reflect on some of their favorite saints!
Beginning in mid October, the students in grades K - 8 will be taking the i-eady benchmark assessments. We will no longer take the IOWA or the CoGaT assessments. This diagnostic test will be a great tool for the teachers to use to better assess students strengths and weaknesses.
With Thanksgiving and Christmas on the horizon, our students have been made aware of
the needs of so many here in Long Beach. We thank our families for donating an
abundance of food items for our Outreach which is in great need. We will be having more
frequent collections as we enter the holiday season and plan on continuing our support
throughout the school year.
